2018 Great Wall of China AdventureTrek

Following on from the success of our first overseas challenge in 2015, we invite you to join our team of kidney community adventurers as we take on the Great Wall of China in May 2018!

Over five days, you will challenge yourself like never before as you trek on remote and unrestored paths, between mountains, through local villages and across rolling farmlands. You’ll explore the many facets of the Great Wall, reading the ancient stories and poems etched into its watchtowers, every brick telling a story of war and adventure.

Best of all, you’ll take steps towards better health outcomes for Australians affected by kidney disease.

Adventure highlights

  • Trek the Great Wall in the shadow of otherworldly mountains
  • Discover the contrasts of ancient and modern Beijing, from Tiananmen Square to the grand imperial architecture of the Forbidden City
  • Lose yourself in a maze of overgrown trees as you navigate some of the most remote parts of the Great Wall
  • Take steps towards better health outcomes for Australians affected by kidney disease

"This experience gave me the opportunity to meet wonderful people who were very supportive and who I have formed lifelong bonds with. I’d encourage everyone to consider taking part in this trek, or to spread the word to your family and friends.”  Demi-Lee, 2015 Trek Participant

2015 Great Wall of China Challenge

2015 Great Wall of China Challenge
Kidney Health Australia congratulates our 2015 Great Wall of China Challenge Team who have raised over $50,000 for the Big Red Kidney Bus Expansion Project!

In October, eight members of our kidney community came together to take part in our very first Inspired Adventures overseas challenge. The 11 day journey explored China’s rich culture and history, included five days trekking the Great Wall of China. The team climbed 16,340 stairs, which is the equivalent of 817 flights of stairs and a total of 49.4 kilometres up and down. No easy feat!

Trekkers all described the journey as the trip of a lifetime! While each participant had different reasons for taking part in the challenge, each were united in their passion to support people on dialysis by helping them have a holiday through the Big Red Kidney Bus.
