Kidney Kids Camp

Each year, the Kidney Kids Camp brings together children living with CKD and their siblings from across the country The camp is held over four days, with an average of 100 kids. Children and young adults aged from 8 to 17 years embark on a series of fun, self-esteem, and confidence-building and peer-networking activities.

The camp particularly encourages children and their families to create meaningful connections with others who have similar issues and challenges. Through connection-building activities, children and families have the opportunity to develop peer support networks.

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all your efforts…I didn’t know what to expect, and was quite anxious as dropping off Alex, as she has required so much love and care of late… she had a wonderful time, I don’t think she wanted to come home…I am quite taken aback by the changes in Alex that I have seen. You have done such an amazing job…I know Alex has changed and grown into a more confident young lady which is so exciting to see after all that she has been through.” Rachel Byrne, a 'Kidney Kid' mum.

The camps support the whole family, offering 'Kidney Kids' siblings a better understanding of chronic kidney disease, whilst providing respite for parents.

Kidney Kids Camp is supported by Kidney Australia fundraising programs and volunteer participation. CKD does not go away with treatment and tends to get worse over time. We are extremely grateful for all the generous support that enables this life-enriching program to touch the lives of so many children living with CKD, and their families.

Volunteer at  Kidney Kids Camp

Many wonderful volunteers who assist at Kidney Kids Camp come from universities and hospitals located near the camp; however, anyone can apply to volunteer and support this life-enriching program. If you feel you’d be an ideal volunteer, please email kids@kidney.org.au

Please note, parents of children attending the program are not eligible to volunteer. This is because an aim of the camp is to provide parents with a period of respite, whilst also encouraging children and young adults the chance to interact freely with their peers.
